A top running back target for the Wisconsin football program announced his commitment to a Big Ten foe on Tuesday.

Jace Clarizio took to social media to announce he would stay home and play for Jonathan Smith and Michigan State.

Clarizio is rated as the No. 1086 player in the country, the No. 79 RB, and the No. 22 player in Michigan.

The East Lansing native chose the Spartans over offers from USC, Louisville, Minnesota, Indiana, Kansas, Pitt, Toledo, and many others.

UW extended an offer in January and hosted the three-star tailback on a junior day visit in February and an unofficial visit during spring practice in April. He also had an official visit with the Badgers for the first weekend in June, which will no longer occur.

Wisconsin has yet to add a running back commit to the 2025 recruiting class. After taking three running backs, Darrion Dupree, Dilin Jones, and Gideon Ituka, in the 2024 cycle, it wouldn’t be surprising to see just one running back taken in this class. Some of the top remaining names for UW at tailback include Byron Louis, John Forster, and Javin Gordon.

The Wisconsin football program currently holds 11 commitments in the 2025 recruiting cycle, which is ranked as the No. 16 class in the country per the composite rankings.
