Thomson Speaks on Phillies' Disappointing Ending
Kyle Schwab-USA TODAY Sports

In the last two seasons, the Philadelphia Phillies have fallen short of reaching their goal of winning a championship.

Making it to a World Series and then an NLCS in back-to-back seasons is nothing to ignore, but the Phillies understand that there's another step for them to take.

Dave Dombrowski has put together a roster that has an opportunity to complete that task. Pending injuries and other factors, Philadelphia has as good as a chance as any other team in baseball.

The season will be determined by what they do in October.

Manager Rob Thomson spoke to the media about the past two years, hinting that his team is motivated to win it all in 2024.

“They are motivated. We've had 2 years of tasting it. They want it. They want to take a big chunk out of it and swallow it."

Motivation should be at an all-time high, especially after last season when they disappointingly blew a 3-2 lead at home to the Arizona Diamondbacks during the NLCS.

It's a different year for the Phillies.

During the beginning of 2023, they dealt with injuries to Bryce Harper, Rhys Hoskins and others, a slow start from Trea Turner, and other issues.

That early stretch put them in a nearly impossible position to win the NL East, which, while not the most important thing, should be something they strive for this year.

Philadelphia has a roster full of veterans, and it's uncertain how many more chances they'll get to be a contending team with this group.

2024 gives them another opportunity to finish the task and bring the World Series title back to a city that deserves one.
