Super Bowl favorites the Kansas City Chiefs may shockingly sign $70 million free agent and former Seattle Seahawk safety, Jamal Adams. According to a source, they predict the LSU product to sign with the Chiefs are the post-June 1 roster cuts. There are rumors still swirling that Adams could return to Seattle as a linebacker, but that seems unlikely. However, the new leadership from head coach Mike Macdonald doesn’t look to bring old faces to the team and is looking to go young.

The same source is urging the Chiefs to do the same as the Seahawks, swooping him into a linebacker and safety role. The 28-year-old isn’t the same player he was earlier in his career but he could provide a lot of upside to a team’s secondary. Adams missed 34 of 68 regular-season games due to various injuries, dwindling his value of what he would have been. However, he has become a polarizing figure in the league with his off-field antics.

Despite that, the opportunity is there for the Chiefs to shape him into the player he was before the track record of injuries. The loss of L’Jarius Sneed, Mike Edwards and Willie Gay should be enough consideration to put Adams in Steve Spagnuolo’s defense. However, they were able to draft Jaden Hicks in this year’s draft but the talent isn’t proven until he plays in the NFL. The Chiefs could bring in the LSU product for camp to see what he could provide as a situational safety and linebacker.

Seattle has some competition for Adams this summer if they want to still retain him. According to a source, the 49ers are also in communication for his services. There’s still a lot of upside for Adams who will be looking for the next opportunity.

Where Does He End Up?

It doesn’t seem likely that the 28-year-old comes back to the Seahawks for a reunion. Seattle was able to draft Tyrice Knight this draft so he joins an inside linebacker corps that will be completely different. The Seahawks weren’t able to retain Bobby Wagner so it makes sense why they considered bringing Adams back in the first place. Even though they’re leaving the door open for his return, it doesn’t seem likely financially and his playing time.

If Adams returns, he would probably as a weakside linebacker in a part-time role. This doesn’t sound intriguing for Adams who may be looking to ring-chase in his career. Former Miami Dolphin star, Xavien Howard seems to understand that it’s about rings now over dollars. It should probably be the same mentality for Adams who will be exploring his options this training camp.

It would be a surprise for Adams to return considering the Seahawks are already absorbing $20.83 million in dead money. With that, it seems likely he would fit with the Chiefs in the linebacker room that already has Nick Bolton and Drue Tranquill. Here are some other potential team fits for Adams if he doesn’t land in Kansas City.

Potential Team Fits for Adams

The Dallas Cowboys could use the veteran for the linebacker position since the loss of Leighton Vander-Esch and missing out on Wagner. However, they were able to sign Eric Kendricks but giving Adams a chance on one side of the linebacker spot doesn’t sound like the worst idea. Defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer may love his Blitzing prowess so he could thrive like how Harrison Smith did in his days with the Vikings.

The loss of Geno Stone should be enough for the Baltimore Ravens to consider Adams. He isn’t in his prime but it’s better to have some insurance policy until some of the younger guys prove their talent. The strength of Kyle Hamilton and Adams should be fun to watch if it happens. One final spot would the New Orleans Saints to team with Tyrann Mathieu.

The Saints didn’t do much to bolster the safety position so Adams would be a cheap short-term option.
